Jan Špringl appointed Chief Executive Officer of EP Power Europe
4. 9. 2019
EP Power Europe, a.s. (EPPE) established the CEO role and appointed to this position Jan Špringl. Jan Špringl is and remains Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPPE. Daniel Křetínský, who until now acted as a chief executive of EPPE, remains the Chairman of the Board of Directors. By this appointment, Jan Špringl takes over executive management of the entire EPPE group.
„I have been working with Jan since 2003. Jan is my closest associate in the area of energy. He has substantially participated in building the entire EPH, including EP Power Europe. Jan’s appointment as CEO of EPPE reflects to a large extent already the current situation where Jan focused on managing EPPE from his board role as I became busier with the development of the group beyond the energy sector while still being deeply involved in EP Infrastructure. Jan’s appointment to the chief executive of EPPE, the company encompassing our assets in the area of electricity generation and coal mining, builds upon his already very extensive involvement as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors“, said Daniel Křetínský, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPPE and majority owner of Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH), of which EPPE is 100% subsidiary.
“I appreciate the trust in my person demonstrated by the appointment to this position. As already mentioned by Daniel, I know EPPE in detail. Daniel and I are fully aligned in the future strategy for EPPE. Hence, I foresee no changes in strategic direction nor the way we operate. However, as the current market offers fewer opportunities for acquisitive growth, our acquisitions will be much more selective and we will be emphasizing opportunities building on synergies with our existing assets. We will focus on our own development to a much greater extent, both in the area of renewables and/or low carbon conventional power generation sources. I will pay great attention to the management of our existing fleet of power plants, which is among the best balanced in Europe in terms of fuel-type diversification. My ambition is also to maintain EPPE as one of the leaders in active decarbonization of the European energy sector. By active decarbonization, I mean the process where a particular power plant is replaced by a new type with lower emissions while maintaining its energy function, all in a way that minimizes negative economic and social impacts. We have saved more than 20 million tons of CO2 over the last 5 years. In my opinion, we have contributed substantially more to reducing carbon footprint than companies that only offload the carbon-emitting sources from their portfolios without applying a real carbon reduction solutions, ” said Jan Špringl.
Jan Špringl is also Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPH, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of EP Energy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nafta. Prior EPPE was formed, Jan held various positions on the boards of directors and supervisory boards of other affiliated companies. He holds a master’s degree from the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Economics in Prague. He is 41 years old and married with four children.
