EPH continues on the path to sustainability, with a wind farm being established on the site of an open-pit mine

A total of 62 MWs of wind turbines are set to be erected on the reclaimed area of a former lignite open-pit mine located on the border of the German federal states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Mibrag, a subsidiary of Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH), obtained permission for their construction in July. Mibrag collaborates on the project with LEAG Renewables.
In Profen, ten 6.2 MW-class wind turbines will generate approximately 160 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, which Mibrag plans to feed into the public grid starting in 2027. This output will be sufficient to supply around 46,000 households with electricity. The generated electricity can also be utilized to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis.
“We are pleased to continue our commitment to sustainability by transforming another former mining area into a source of renewable energy. This project is part of our strategic shift towards low-carbon energy production,” said Tomáš David, the senior executive responsible for renewable energy at EP Corporate Group.
